Meet Lanette

Career educator & advocate, Lanette Edwards,
files for Delaware State House District 22

HOCKESSIN – Citing the need for a fresh outlook on the issues facing the community as well as a unique perspective on the direction of the state of Delaware, career educator Lanette Edwards has filed to run against 18-year incumbent Joe Miro in the state House of Representatives.

Edwards, 48, is an education consultant and was an adjunct professor at Delaware State University and former social studies teacher at Glasgow High School. As a 16-year resident of Delaware, having spent over 25 years in the service of public education and holding several leadership roles within the community, Edwards has seen the need for the status quo to change in Dover for the district, which includes Hockessin, Pike Creek and the surrounding communities.

“This is a critical election with serious issues hanging in the balance that affect the day-to-day lives of Delawareans. I want to be an advocate for the community, fighting for improvements to education that benefit both students and teachers, job training programs to get Delawareans back to work, as well as reasonable efforts to reduce gun violence,” Edwards said.

“Our community has changed in significant ways over the past two decades and my experiences as an educator, administrator, active member of my community, as well as a wife and mother has provided me with the tools that are needed to represent this dynamic district.”

Edwards earned her doctorate in education from Wilmington University in 2015. She and her husband, Tony, live in Vallebrook and have three college-aged children who attended Delaware public schools.
